Like coach said, we need to win. Play the best players. If he's not one of the best players, send him back.
Alternatively, package him in a trade him for Lindholm. |

I'd do that in a heartbeat.........would have to be another pretty good asset being added though.
Chabot and a 1st....not even sure that gets it done. |

they should tweak that Junior age rule to exclude first round picks. first rounders should be able to play AHL at any age after the draft. I find it hard to believe the NHL agreed to this in the first place. |

Ouch. He waived his no-movement clause for the trade. The last two years have been rough on him. Not the way you want to go. Hopefully some team picks him up. |

Michalek at 4M is ridiculous.
I rip Eugene for being a cheapass all the time, but I can't see how anyone could justify picking up that contract.
His contract was dealt for a reason when we got Phaneuf.
Michalek is not going to make or break our season. |

I was somewhat surprised by that actually, he hasn't been that bad as a third line depth guy. Oh well, he's a free agent at the end of the year anyway. Leafs have some kids out playing him |

It would be interesting to know if the Leafs would accept a deal to split his salary. Michalek at something like $2M would be a reasonable depth addition, and the Leafs might go for that if they're already putting him on waivers and thinking of sending him down to the AHL. It's also far better to take care of this depth issue proactively, as opposed to waiting for MacArthur's head to fall off his shoulders and letting other teams realize how little faith they seemingly have in Puempel. |

This Michalek talk got me thinking about the Phaneuf trade. It still looks decent. I like that Ottawa got cheap prospects in return and someone who is still playing in the NHL, albeit at a hefty price tag (for now).
Dion Phaneuf - Hefty contract but NHL calibre 3-4 defenseman and PP
Cody Donaghey- QMJHL D-man with solid numbers and size
Casey Bailey - Bingo Sens 2 goals in 3 games, 800k RFA
Ryan Rupert - Bingo Sens 1 goal in 3 games, 600k RFA
Matt Frattin - AHL Miami not resigned
for
Jared Cowen - did not play -owed between 1.5 and 4.5 million depending on arbitration decision
Milan Michalek - owed 4 million, waived, AHL
Colin Greening - AHL, owed 3.2 million

I still generally like the deal, but I'm not sure that you can omit the term of Phaneuf's contract, or the inclusion of Lindberg and a 2nd round pick in 2017 - which I think most Leafs fan would regard as the most significant benefit of the trade.
Cody Donaghey looks like he might be more than just a throw-in, but I'd actually prefer if he wasn't on such a stacked offensive team (with 6 players already at PPG or better). On the positive side, that group of players is led by Filip Chlapik, who already has 12G/7A in 10GP, but sudden spikes in scoring for players in their final year of junior on a 'good team' are often not transferable to the next level. |

I'm not convinced Matt Puemple will ever be a mainstay NHLer. Or that PD wants to resign him this summer. His playmaking ability is barely AHL caliber, he isn't very fast, his defensive game has holes. Yes he has a good shot but he hasn't translated that into pucks in the back of big league nets. He'll be 24 years old in a couple months. If Shane prince got the Sens a 3rd round pick what's MP worth at the deadline a fourth rounder ?
No way Melnyk would allow Dorion to pick up Michalek @ $4 mill. But if he gets him @$2 mill and dumps MP's 900k. He might get the green light to take on a little more salary. |

Don't be so dramatic, Murray made worse trades than this one. What did we get for Mike Fisher & Chris Kelly in their prime ? Oh yes that's right, Shane Prince & Stephan (frank)ing Noeson |

The trades themselves, a a first and a third, and a 2nd respectively were great. It was what he turned them into that was pretty bad.
A second roundn pick for Chris kelly is a great trade. |

Sorry, but no. I'm not sold on Peumpel either, but enough recycling old players back onto this roster. I'd rather see that spot go to a young guy or any AHL call up. |

I sincerely hope I'm wrong but both him and Ceci have been an absolute tire fire. It's only been 5 games but yikes.
We really need both players to step up but I've never been a Phaneuf fan. His skill set is depreciating and that cap hit is a nightmare. For a team that counts it's pennies they definitely could of spent that money wiser but hey, win now mode smh
Again, really hope I'm wrong |
